There is a tale our Rabbi shares every year during the High Holy days. It goes like this: A tale about Levi Yitzchak of Berditchev tells that he started outside his rabbinic career wanting to alter the earth. After distinct years, he realized that was also dense, so he chose to try to alter his community. Distinct years later, that goal was abandoned as also dense, and Levi Yitzchak chose just to concentrate on changing his own family. He finally concluded that the only one he could really alter was himself! That’s the only person we can truly alter anyway. If we choose not to aid ourselves, we are really lost.
